![]() This study informs an intergenerational approach in terms of screening and intervention, so professionals can effectively work for families to alleviate the enduring negative effects of generational trauma, to reduce prohibitive social expenditures on mental health services, and to promote social justice. Based on clients’ perspectives, we also identified effective clinical strategies to treat families experiencing intergenerational trauma. Our findings on pathways of trauma transmission highlighted the critical role of improving parental emotion regulation and parental mentalization. This study exemplifies the use of social work science for social change and suggests a commitment at the policy level to build community resilience to break family-level trauma transmission. Families’ lived experience also showed the influence of neighborhood environment on family lives.Ĭonclusions and Implications. The qualitative inquiry revealed information to inform specific clinical strategies and facilitate the therapeutic process of breaking the trauma transmission: building an authentic therapeutic relationship, employing a strengths-based approach, and creating facilitating systems-level factors. There was no direct or indirect effect of parental household dysfunction related ACEs on child outcomes. The quantitative inquiry showed parental childhood maltreatment ACEs was directly and indirectly associated with child behavioral problems and functioning with two important mediators, i.e., parental emotion regulation and mentalization (parents’ capacity to understand their child’s mental states). Strategies of expert consultation, audit trail, peer debriefing, and member checking were employed to ensure the trustworthiness. ATLAS.Ti 8 was used for data management and coding. Grounded theory was employed in the processes of data collection, coding, and analysis. Participants shared their perceptions on helpful/unhelpful strategies about breaking the cycle of inter-generational trauma. ![]() To enrich the understanding of the cycle of intergenerational trauma, 12 parent participants from low-income families recruited from a mental health agency answered corresponding questions regarding families’ lived experiences during in-depth interviews. Structural equation modelling with Mplus 7 identified the mechanisms of trauma transmission. The sample of parent participants (N=202) for the quantitative inquiry was recruited from an online data collection platform – Amazon Mechanical Turk. The quantitative inquiry employed a cross-sectional survey design to examine the pathways of trauma transmission. This study included both quantitative and qualitative research components. To inform practitioners of effective approaches to work with parents who have trauma histories and break the cycle of trauma, this study has two specific aims: Identify the pathways from parents’ adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) to their child/ren’s outcomes Explore behavioral health intervention strategies that can counteract trauma transmission. Breaking the cycle of inter-generational trauma is relevant to racial and social justice, because trauma diminishes life opportunities across generations and hinders social mobility. Children living with parents who have trauma histories tend to develop compromised behavioral health outcomes and trauma symptoms. ![]()

Humans who suddenly awaken appear to be instantly rejected by docbots, who disconnect them from their pod's umbilicals and eject their body to the old sewer system of the ancient human cities, where the hovercraft crew retrieves the freed human. The pill is actually a tracing program that disrupts the carrier signal of the pod-human's mind, making it possible for a hovercraft operator to locate the pod that holds the human, and sending commands that force it to go offline and awaken its inhabitant. The term gets its name from the color of the virtual pill given by a hovercraft operative (who has re-materialized inside the Matrix as an avatar) to a human still living out a life within the Matrix. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Society for Women and the Civil War is dedicated to recognizing the efforts of women who lived through or participated in the American Civil War and those who research, reenact or otherwise honor these women of the past. Although the term was in everyday use among musicians, composers, conductors, publishers and instrument makers throughout the century, the meaning of cimbasso was clear only to the extent that it described nothing more or less than the voice below the trombones, the deepest brass voice in fact. The term cimbasso emerged in Italy at the beginning of the 19th century and is probably an abbreviation of corno in basso (bass horn). History 19th century - cimbasso describes the deepest brass voice This valve was developed in Vienna by Joseph Riedl in 1835 and is now the most commonly used valve on brass instruments along with the Périnet or piston valve. Today the instrument is made in two keys, F and Eb (four valves) and is of the valved contrabass trombone type. The cimbasso is usually played by a tuba player because its mouthpiece is the same as the tuba's. The five rotary valves are operated by the right hand, the 5th valve by the right thumb the triggers of the first two valves are activated by the left hand. The cimbasso is about 120 cm high and is played in the sitting position, resting on the floor on a tail-pin or spike the length of which is adjustable. The most striking feature of the cimbasso is the front-facing bell, which points slightly downward when the instrument is in the correct playing position. Valves: Five valves (lowering pitch by 1, ½, 1½ steps, fourth-valve, 5th valve for the right thumb: wide whole step).Mouthpiece: Deep cup mouthpiece (corresponds to the tuba's mouthpiece).Material: Brass, gold brass, nickel silver, gold lacquer.Classification: Aerophone, lip-vibrated instrument, brass wind instrument. ![]() It`s alright, but the slide became crap really fast. The slide positions will all be relatively the same as a tenor trombone in relation to the bell. A soprano trombone has a moving handslide and stationary bell. ![]() Most slide trumpets had a 4 note capacity to them. Slide trumpets were medieval instruments in which the bell moved back and forth, not the handslide. And waht he is talking about IS NOT A SLIDE TRUMPET. 3rd space on tenor clef reads as a B on tenor, but you move them up spaces and lines like you would treble. 3rd space on treble is a trumpet C which transposes to a trombone Bb. (and also add 2 flats to whatever the key signature is to make it bass)It`s also just like reading tenor clef. To convert treble into what you would see for bass clef, move any note on a space up 2 spaces, or if on a line move it up 2 lines and it will look like it should for bass clef. Soprano trombone can either transpose a trombone part up an octave, or you can read it treble from a trumpet. The only thing that really uses soprano clef is a Viola. Ummmm the soprano clef has nothing to do with the instrument being called soprano. ![]() ![]() If they do not want to get well or, worse yet, are perceived as faking their illness or malingering after becoming healthier, they are no longer considered legitimately ill by the people who know them or, more generally, by society itself. Second, sick people must want to get well. If someone is driving drunk and smashes into a tree, there is much less sympathy than if the driver had been sober and skidded off the road in icy weather. If we eat high-fat food, become obese, and have a heart attack, we evoke less sympathy than if we had practiced good nutrition and maintained a proper weight. First, sick people should not be perceived as having caused their own health problem. He referred to these expectations as the sick role. Poor medical care is likewise dysfunctional for society, as people who are ill face greater difficulty in becoming healthy and people who are healthy are more likely to become ill.įor a person to be considered legitimately sick, said Parsons, several expectations must be met. This was especially true for premature death, said Parsons, because it prevents individuals from fully carrying out all their social roles and thus represents a “poor return” to society for the various costs of pregnancy, birth, child care, and socialization of the individual who ends up dying early. Ill health impairs our ability to perform our roles in society, and if too many people are unhealthy, society’s functioning and stability suffer. ![]() Physicians “manage the situation” to display their authority and medical knowledge.Īs conceived by Talcott Parsons (1951), the functionalist perspective emphasizes that good health and effective medical care are essential for a society’s ability to function. Health and illness are social constructions: Physical and mental conditions have little or no objective reality but instead are considered healthy or ill conditions only if they are defined as such by a society. Partly to increase their incomes, physicians have tried to control the practice of medicine and to define social problems as medical problems. People from disadvantaged social backgrounds are more likely to become ill and to receive inadequate health care. Social inequality characterizes the quality of health and the quality of health care. The physician-patient relationship is hierarchical: The physician provides instructions, and the patient needs to follow them. Patients must perform the “sick role” in order to be perceived as legitimately ill and to be exempt from their normal obligations. Good health and effective medical care are essential for the smooth functioning of society. Table 13.1 Theory Snapshot Theoretical perspective Table 13.1 “Theory Snapshot” summarizes what they say. As usual, the major sociological perspectives that we have discussed throughout this book offer different types of explanations, but together they provide us with a more comprehensive understanding than any one approach can do by itself. With these definitions in mind, we now turn to sociological explanations of health and health care. Finally, health care refers to the provision of medical services to prevent, diagnose, and treat health problems. This social institution in the United States is vast, to put it mildly, and involves more than 11 million people (physicians, nurses, dentists, therapists, medical records technicians, and many other occupations). Medicine refers to the social institution that seeks to prevent, diagnose, and treat illness and to promote health in its various dimensions. ![]() ![]() Although the three dimensions of health just listed often affect each other, it is possible for someone to be in good physical health and poor mental health, or vice versa. As this definition suggests, health is a multidimensional concept. Health refers to the extent of a person’s physical, mental, and social well-being. List the assumptions of the functionalist, conflict, and symbolic interactionist perspectives on health and medicine.īefore discussing these perspectives, we must first define three key concepts-health, medicine, and health care-that lie at the heart of their explanations and of this chapter’s discussion. ![]() ![]() ![]() Emphasis shifted to naval battles and strategies of attrition such as blockades and sieges. The eventual triumph of the Greeks was achieved by alliances of many city-states, on a scale and scope never seen before. ![]() To battle the enormous armies of the Achaemenid Empire was effectively beyond the capabilities of a single city-state. The scope and scale of warfare in Ancient Greece changed as a result of the Greco-Persian Wars, which marked the beginning of Classical Greece (480–323 BC). Neither side could afford heavy casualties or sustained campaigns, so conflicts seem to have been resolved by a single set-piece battle. Since the soldiers were citizens with other occupations, warfare was limited in distance, season and scale. With this evolution in warfare, battles seem to have consisted mostly of the clash of hoplite phalanxes from the city-states in conflict. The Chigi vase, dated to around 650 BC, is the earliest depiction of a hoplite in full battle array. Seen in media, the phalanx was a formation of these soldiers with their shields locked together and spears pointed forward. Hoplites were armored infantrymen, armed with spears and shields.
